5 Tips for Entertaining Your Kids During a Plane Ride

It can be hard to keep your kids entertained when you’re traveling by plane, especially as they can’t readily get up and walk around or make a pit stop. Fortunately, toys and activities like reading personalized childrens book and drawing in coloring books can help alleviate boredom and keep kids calm, occupied, and entertained. Here are some of the toys and activities your children can enjoy while on a plane.

Personalized Story Books

Snacks to Stop Them Being Hangry

A hungry child is also likely an angry child, hence “hangry.” Keeping a large supply of snacks in a carry-on, such as a backpack, is a wise idea. Be sure to bring extra in case the flight is delayed. Being stuck an additional three hours with dwindling snacks is never a good situation. Plus, snacks will keep your child occupied as they eat. Don’t forget to bring a variety of snacks, and make them as healthy as possible.

Books to Hold Their Attention

Bring some new books along for the ride. Kids personalized books are perfect, especially if you surprise them by pulling out the new book during the flight. They get to be the star of the adventure, with their name on the book and an avatar representing them going on a journey. It’s sure to wow them, and don’t be surprised if they keep asking to read it throughout the flight. Bring some new books from their favorite series, as well, so that you can eventually switch up which books you are reading.

Toys for Having Fun

If your child has a favorite stuffed animal, don’t forget to pack it in the carry-on. Other toys, such as action figures or dolls, are also great for playing in the airplane. Toys that don’t have many moving parts are also best, as losing a part to the floor, where it can roll around and be lost forever, is never fun for anyone and can result in a wailing child.

A Phone or Tablet for Movies

If possible, load up a favorite movie or show onto your phone or tablet so that your child can watch it while flying. This is especially handy while on longer flights, as it can occupy them for longer periods of time, especially when combined with snacks.

Coloring Books to Flex Their Creativity

Coloring books are a classic travel companion and are perfect with triangular crayons. These won’t roll away if put on tray tables. Also, look for coloring books with markers that only work on a specific type of paper. There are even coloring books that use water instead of a marker or crayon and can be used again after each page dries.
